As the saying goes, “It’s better to travel alone than have a bad companion.”
- IT BUILDS CONFIDENCE.
It takes a lot of guts to travel alone. Most especially if you’re going out of the country and to a place for the first time. That’s why going solo on an adventure is one way to boost your confidence. It takes you out of your comfort zone.
- IT’S THE PERFECT TIME TO REFLECT AND DISCOVER YOURSELF.
When you set on a journey solo, you begin to know more about yourself like the things you thought you could and couldn’t do (like traveling alone). There is peace that comes with being solitary, with just enjoying your surroundings and not engaging another person in a conversation. You get to reflect on matters you normally wouldn’t be able to think about if you’re in the company of someone else.
- YOU CAN MAKE NEW CONNECTIONS.
Traveling alone is a great way to meet new people. Engage the locals and ask about their culture. Meet fellow travelers staying in the same hotel. While it’s fun to make memories with your family and friends from time to time, it is also delightful to venture alone and meet people you would otherwise have not met if you were surrounded with people you’re comfortable with. When you’re alone (and pretty much have no one else to talk to), you overcome your shyness and become eager to chat with other people.
- YOUR TIME IS YOUR OWN.
Which translates to “do whatever you want to do.” Well, not really. The point is, when you go solo, you’re not bound by any time frame you or your friends may have set up in advance. There’ no one else to compromise with or cater to. Well, except yourself. A solo sojourn could mean that you’re free to just stay inside your hotel room, order room service and soak up in the tub. Otherwise, you can just spend it sleeping in until noon, and it’s pretty much the same thing.
- YOU OWN YOUR EXPERIENCE.
There’s no companion to “filter” what you went through. How you experience your adventure is your own and is not affected by how others perceive it. For instance, when you experience watching the sun set while on top of the mountain. Your friend was not that impressed since she’d seen other beautiful sunsets better than this one. Chances are, the beauty of what you saw would be minimized.
So don’t be afraid to jet off into the unknown by yourself. It just might be the best thing that you’ve ever done for yourself.
