Will you dare lying in a coffin with its lid shut? If some people see it as a nerve-wrecking experience, a psychotherapy clinic in Shenyang, China, sees it as way to treat heavy stress and various psychological problems.
A consultant at this unique psychotherapy clinic in Shenyang named Tang Yulong says that by simulating death people can be treated from psychological problems. During the therapy, the patients go in a 5-square-meter ”death experience room”, write down their last words, lie down into a coffin in the floor and will be covered with a white cloth.
Sound effects such as dirge are being played in the room to make this “dying” experience even more realistic. After five minutes of “serene time”, the patients will hear a sound of baby crying. Then, the consultant opens the coffin with a joyful tune playing in the background. This rebirth apparently helps people get a new outlook on life. In fact, according to The Shenyang Evening News, over 1,000 patients have so far been ”reborn” by simulating death.
“In the past 35 years, I thought what I pursued were what I needed, such as money and a high position,” Huang said, a 35-year-old manager
“However, after this therapy, I find out that what I need is not a house, but a home.” He added.
Huang had several attempts on committing suicide in the past but was stopped by family or colleagues. He has asked for demotion after going through this treatment. Now he is involved with various charities to help those less fortunate.
Tang Yulong claims that the therapy makes use of suggestion theory in psychology. He insist that this psychotherapy is not suitable for everyone.
“We will choose proper ones to receive this death-experience therapy.” he said.
